Fine art is not a label for me. It means the image itself is the destination and should be able to exist as a physical work.
An image gains weight when it can exist beyond a screen. For Greycard, the physical print is not an afterthought.
A photograph can show what someone looks like. A portrait becomes interesting when it also shows something recognisable about that person.
Some portraits stay with us because something in them feels recognisable: a look, a posture, a quiet moment. Not because everything is perfect.
Presence is difficult to measure but easy to recognise: someone no longer seems occupied by the camera and simply looks like themselves.
